San Francisco Adult Bat Mitzvah Celebration

Can you imagine how fun it would be to celebrate your bat mitzvah anniversary– exactly 13 years later? a bat mitzvah anniversary and 26-year birthday celebration all rolled into one?  And to have it on a boat, like the first time? Can you say “Ahoy Vey” for her “Boat Mitzvah”? Whether you’ve had a bat mitzvah as a teenager or even as an adult, there are clearly ways to embrace and celebrate your bat mitzvah throughout the years ahead.

Sasha invited her family and friends to a Blue and Gold Fleet cruise in San Francisco Bay in January. The boat pulled out past the sea lions onto the Bay for amazing views of Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oakland Bay Bridge. Later we headed inside for a sweet reading by her parents of their bat mitzvah remarks from 13 years prior! Things that touched us, like them describing her personality as a teenager, and what they wished for her in the upcoming years ahead. Even without a yad, bima, torah, kiddish cup on the boat — Sasha had her original invitations for us to enjoy. (Note to parents: save one or two invitations, save your welcoming remarks, because you never know when you might reference them later.)

There were many good wishes and cheers (HBD and dilly dilly) from her friends and family for a wonderful happy birthday. Annnnd if you think the low ceiling slowed down the horah, think again — lots and lots of dancing and fun.
